SCABA Spring Contest 2009

Celebrating Band

The band worked hard and played well during this years Southern Counties Amatuer Band Association Contest in Brighton and attained a well earned 2nd place.

Keith Pritchard, our Principle Cornet player also won the `Best Instrumentalist` prize. Well done Keith.

The Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band is extremely pleased to announce that Mr. Kevin Spencer LLCM, LRSM, NABBC, has accepted the position of Musical Director. The band hopes he has a long and successful time with the band.

After just over 3 years of directing the Snowdown Colliery Welfare Brass band, Keith Twyman has decided to step down as Music Director of the band.

During his leadership the band have grown stronger and have performed at many, many local and some not so local musical events, concerts, fetes, bandstands and contests.

The band wish Keith all the very best in life and all his future endeavours.

CHANGE OF PRACTICE VENUE

Due to a fire at The New Club last thursday morning, band rehearsal this week (12th November ) will be at Adisham Village Hall....don\'t forget to bring any stands you have with you please....we may have to find an alternative venue until the new year, but we will know more next week. Mick.

The Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band took part in the Southern Counties Amateur Band Association`s Autumn Contest at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone again this year and were placed THIRD in section.

Well done band - Great Effort!

Middle of Band Plays Musical Chairs

Today the middle sections of the band have had a re-shuffle. The following moves have now occurred:
  • Ritchie (Principal Euph) moves to 2nd Euphonium as commitments outside the band increase.
  • Rachel (2nd Euph) moves to 1st Euphonium.
  • Mike (1st Trom) moves to Principal Euphonium.
  • Dee (2nd Euph) moves to 1st Baritone
  • Richard (1st Bari) moved to 2nd Euphonium
  • Terry (1st Bari) moves to 2nd Baritone
This means that the band now are looking for players to fill the following vacancies:
  • Tutti Solo Cornet
  • Trombone (Position now filled)

Band Votes for new Musical Director

Tonight the members of Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band voted for who they wanted to be the next Musical Director.

The two candidates were Keith Twyman and Helen Tesh. The committee are pleased to announce the result of the voting. The new Musical Director of the Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band is Keith Twyman.

Congratulations to Keith on his successful appointment.

Our thanks go to Helen for putting herself forward for the position and commiserations for not getting the position.

07 Jun 2009 - In case anybody doesn't already know, the Memorial Bandstand Committee have cancelled this afternoon's concert,(Sunday 7th June), on Walmer Bandstand...due to the weather forecast,..(bet it doesn't rain,)..see you all at rehearsal Wednesday....Mick.

31 May 2009 - Thanks everybody for another good performance, I thought the band played really well a few special thanks firstly to Andy for coming and helping on front row, to Dee and Richard for giving up a previous engagement to help out, to Laurence whos playing wasnt effected by the flu, and to Audrey and Jan. Well done to everyone. Kevin
