About the Band - Quick History
The Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band has its origins in the Brass Band movement born around the working coal mining community of the Snowdown Colliery, Kent in 1929. Since the closure of the pit, the band has continued to play although it now has only one member who used to be a miner.
Size of the band
The band is a friendly, family band, of about thirty players and regularly plays at local fetes, fairs and bandstands.
New Players always welcome
We practice every Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the New Club, Dorman Avenue South in Aylesham which is near Canterbury. Anyone interested in joining the band will be made very welcome.
